Actions

The Actions series encompasses artistic interventions that are not defined by the factuality of the gesture but by the acted tension they express.

Installations and performances characterized by an irreverent, direct and disruptive nature, the Actions play on the decontextualization of everyday objects and symbols and on the relationship with the audience.

They are first conceived in the early 1980s, within the framework of the Early Collaborations, and are later investigated within the conceptual framework of Gruppo Koiné.

Segno Agreste/ Rustic Sign is a cycle of installations and performances, actions carried out during the period of the Early Collaborations as part of the project Nove Percorsi/Nine Paths, 1982, in the Park of Villa Borromeo d'Adda in Arcore. Generated by and within a movement, they unfold in the main courtyard of the Villa and involve the audience, as in Segno Agreste I, where cardboard rolls trace a walkable path between an outside and an inside or, where poured with liquid asphalt, become a pictorial contrastive trace; or as in Segno Agreste III, where a disruptive action, a vehicle for socio-political critique, take the form of a vehement gesture.
Untitled, 1996, Agrate Brianza Tawn Hall.
Project Attracchi/Moorings, Gruppo Koiné.

Located on the roof of the town hall of Agrate Brianza, the installation Untitled is an irriverent action that plays with symbols and the architectural resonance between modern religious and governmental buildings.

In the Attracchi/Moorings project of 1996, he also exhibits Sacca/bag, a work which, as the title suggests, coincides with a transparent drainage bag for peritoneal dialysis, a treatment he had to undergo that very year due to a kidney problem. Displayed in the Town Hall, Sacca/Bag, a formal reference to the Sacks series, plays on the concept of ready-made and investigates the intimate relationship between life and art, while operating a decontextualization that generates disorientation.

Untitled, 1998, installation, garbage bag, dry waste of the Fair, 120x90. Project Presenze/Presences, Gruppo Koiné.
Invited to exhibit, along with Gruppo Koinè, at the MIA International Furniture Exhibition in Monza, he places a black garbage bag on the ground, resting against the wall.
Ready-made, installation, irreverent and disruptive action, Untitled is an imperturbable, direct presence that once again confuses and decontextualizes. It recalls previous actions at Villa Borromeo in Arcore in 1982 and borrows from the language of the Sacks series.
Untitled, 2019, banknote, pencil, 7,7x15,3.
Untitled reconnects to the more recent works of the Signatures, here included in the series of drawings and collateral works. An earlier work with banknotes dates back to 1990s, when fragments of Italian lira banknotes were arranged on panels.
Cavalli di Frisia/Frisian Horses, 2023, installation, wood, screws, 220x220.
Project Futuro Anteriore/Future Perfect, Gruppo Koiné, Cascina Mulini Asciutti Monza.
The installation Cavalli di Frisia, created in 2023, is a formal echo of the defensive obstacle whose premises and goals are here decontextualized and subverted, presenting itself as a symbolic action to protect the value of the green space. It's located at the very entrance of the historic Cascina Mulini Asciutti in Monza Park, playing with references and open to interact with the place and the audience.
The Cavalli di Frisia installation was first realized in 1996 in Biella for the Passaggi a Nord Ovest project. During that exhibition the installation was displayed in an area adjacent to the city's financial institution.
